I have a laptop which had windows XP home installed. I
have had many problems with the lap including corrupt
install disks and my support has run out now. I have had
a corrupt partition table and I have a install disk for
windows XP home but it will not accept my serial from the
sticker on the laptop, why????? Can I not install with an
OEM serial number, if so why the hell do they give it
you???

You need to use the manufacturer's CD with the OEM Product Key.
If you do not have that CD, then contact the computer manufacturer
and request one.

Have someone else try to type it in.

I have the OEM disks but they do not want to work, I had
to send the laptop back last time I needed to re-install
the OS. They fixed it then but the disks still don't work
and it has run out of warranty. It a farse, why can't
your sserial work with any install disks?

It sounds like you sent the computer back the last time because the
disks did not work.
At that time, you should have asked for another set.
Instead now, out of warranty, you seem to be blaming Microsoft because
your discs do not work.

I do not know the full answer as to why different types of CDs do not
work with different keys other than it is mostly likely related to
anti piracy.

You have two choices:
1. Buy Windows XP or get another operating system of your choice.
2. Contact the manufacturer to get another set, possibly at a cost
since you did nothing about this while in warranty.

Another thing you should know:
You need to think of OEM as being manufactured, sold and supported by
the seller and not Microsoft.
For all practical purposes OEM is not a Microsoft product.
One of the many reasons you paid less for your OEM.
