When I try to run sepll check on a message in Outlook Express 6 on my system
with Windows XP Pro 64 bit edition (Office 2003 loaded and all service packs
up to date) I get an error. I've been searching around the web and the last
things I could find are that this is a known problem. What I have not been
able to find is if there is a fix/patch out there to resolve this problem now
or if anyone here has a suggestion/work-around to the problem.
Thanks.

A file, CSAPI3T1.DLL, may not be installed in the Program Files\Outlook
Express folder. Expand it from the CD compressed file ..\i386\driver.cab. The
syntax of Expand.exe is available from 'expand /?'

And the error would be.... ? That'd be a big help in understanding what the
problem actually is.

Do you have Office installed?

The specific error is:

"An error occured while the spelling was being checked".

As I noted in my post I have Office 2003 installed, all service packs and
patches are up to date. Spell check works fine in all Office documents but
does not work in Outlook Express.

Downloaded that dll from several places (just to make sure) and got it dfrom
the cd but replacing it didn't work.

Search for msoe50.inf(The default location is C:\Windows\Inf folder) Right
click the Msoe50.inf file, and click Install. Insert XP CD when prompted,
Browse to the I386 folder, click Open, then OK.

Okay, found the inf file, clicked install, went through the whole process
(found the files it was looking for) and restarted the computer as prompted.
When I started OE6 again, the problem is still there.

So far spell check isn't supported in XP 64 bit system. Until MS or a 3rd
party comes out with a spell check program using a 64 bit dll you're out of
luck.

The Spelling command is not available in Outlook Express 6.0 after you
install Works 7.0 or a later version

Outlook Express has never had spell-checking capabilities of its
own. Instead, it has always relied upon the presence of other Microsoft
applications, such as the Office Suite, Word, or the Works _Suite_
(which includes Word, not the regular Works). Unfortunately, though,
the 64-bit version of OE cannot use the spell-checking feature of the
32-bit Office applications. You can either wait for 64-bit versions of
the Office applications (for which Microsoft has yet to announce any
plans of developing), seek out a third-party spell-checker that works
with the 64-bit version of OE, or use a third-party email and news
client, such as Thunderbird, that has its own spell-checking capability
built-in.

I have Office XP installed (Word, Excel, PP, Access, etc.) and that works
fine with all of the other computers here when it comes to spell checking in
OE6. No Works 7 or anything like that installed. Still no luck.

This is pretty much what I was afraid of. Guess they haven't come up with a
work-around yet either. Guess I shouldn't have tried to think ahead for the
future use of this machine and stayed with the 32 bit version of Windows XP.
Thanks

If you read the article it tell you that if you have 32 bit only app and you
do have 64-bit.
You will not have the spell checker on OE6 unless there is a third-party
toolbar/software, will provide you with such a thing.

Thanks all for the ideas and the help. Unfortunatly, it looks like I'm going
to have to go third party since Microsoft looks like they gooned this one up
and from all i can find it doesn't look like there is any fix on the way.
Thanks again for the help.

The only work around I have heard of was 1 person who told me they are using
the thunderbird email program instead of Outlook Express. According to him
spell check works in it on XP 64 bit. If you want to try it you can
download it at,
