I'm trying to help someone long distance with this problem using OE6.0 with WinXP on a Dell Inspiron 8100. Outlook Express will not launch and there is no error message. Tried directly clicking msimn.exe but no go. I'm reluctant to have her try some of the suggestions involving the Registry that I found on Google. Please see if there is a simpler solution given these facts:

OE was working. Deleted one user and set computer to automatically sign on to default user who has administrator rights. Used Spybot to remove Wild Tangent. IE still works fine, but OE just shows hour glass for a few seconds and then cursor reverts to arrow. Is there something simple I can tell her to do without having to do a reinstall or repair?

I'm thinking maybe she can use the OE Backup program on tomsterdam's site and then delete the folders.dbx file. Will there be any chance she can lose any files this way?

Thanks, Anne

After some more Googling, I found out that renaming the folders.dbx file would not hurt any emails, so I had her rename it. Bingo, all was fine. This is going in my notebook next to renaming normal.dot in WORD.
