Hi again,

What is the problem with OE when using multiple logins with hotmail
accounts?

This is a widespread problem (at least down here), and I'm just wondering if
anyone can shed some light on it, or tell me if there is a fix of some kind?

The Problem: When switching OE users to/from an OE user with a Hotmail
account, sometimes OE rehashes but doesn't restart. Subsequent attempts to
restart the application fail. This can be corrected by logging off XP and
relogging back on. OE then recovers it's settings/integrity and can be
started again...at least until you switch between users, which is rather
like playing russian roulette.

Anyone know how to sort this out?

Sounds like the same problem I've been having. I don't know much about computers but 'not responding ' keeps popping up and then I can't do anything until I log off. It just happened again but stopped. Do you know how to fix 'not responding' ????? c/c

Nope. Not the same problem.

Let me guess, you have that "No socket" error message (can't think of the
exact errmsg)? If all your internet services stop working, your winsock has
hung. I've come to accept that that is a microsoft problem and it will
never go away. Happened with winsock 1, winsock 2, and will probably
continue happening until UNiX takes over the desktop scene. Just restart
windows.

But, there is another 'no socket' errmsg which I sometimes get when there's
a problem on my one smtp server, but all the other services still work, like
http, nntp, etc etc. - just change your smtp server temporarily, and it
should work.

Somebody else might have a more XP-specific explanation on these - haven't
encountered too many problems on XP, myself. Except for losing my adsl
username&password settings, my email account settings, crashing OE with
hotmail, crashing winsock with internet sharing, htmls being changed to
dats, etc. etc. Most of these don't have any explanations though. I
remember when MS was in a hurry to release win95 after chicago - I was one
of the dumbass's that rushed out and bought the first release. Some of those
errors were (and still are) worthy of the twilight zone. Rather wait for
Windows XPse - maybe they'll all be gone by then. ;-)
