It's possible that you don't have the required application needed to open
the type of file that is attached. Have a look at the file extension (the
letters following the . in the file name.........for example, jpg would be
the file extension in file name picture.jpg) for the attachment, and then
see if that file extension has a listing here:

As an added note, I find that, more often than not, the attached file in
question turns out to be a PowerPoint slideshow (file extension pps) or
presentation (file extension ppt). If this is the case, you can download and
install the free PowerPoint viewer from here:
