Odd Problems With Outlook XP

I have been talking with someone who is having a peculiar problem with
Outlook XP. He is checking three different accounts on the same POP3 server
and using rules to filter the messages into three folders (one for each
account).

In the last week, one account is no longer sorting into the appropriate
filter, but is simply ending up in the Inbox, while another is going to the
proper folder but every message is duplicated. The third account is still
working correctly.

I'm assuming there's something failing in Outlook's rules, but can anyone
give me a heads up on what might be happening.

Depends on the rules (which were never mentioned), their order, whether the
accounts are real mailboxes or aliases. My guess is the user has rules that
are triggering that the user doesn't think should trigger. Disable all
rules except one that moves mails to a particular folder and test that one.
Then disable it and enable the other mail-moving rule for the other account
to test it. And so on until you have tested each rule all by itself. Then
enable just these mail-moving rules and test again with mails in each
account to see if they behave. Lastly enable your other rules (if reviewing
them doesn't make it obvious that they are incorrectly defined or out of
order) to see what happens.

If the accounts are actually for aliases instead of separate mailboxes, the
user is polling the same account and may need to use different criteria to
different mails sent to each alias.
