Odd problems with internet access

Hi

I have a strange problem. I have an XP PRo system, with all patches,
connecting to the internet via a 3COM wireless router. The system is
connected physically via an eternet cable. Occasionally, although I get a
DHCP assigned Ip from the router, I cannot access the internet. Web pages
refuse to load, and I cannot download E-Mail etc. This is very intermittant,
and I have done a full spyware scan with Spyboy, and Microsoft, and also a
full virus scan with AVG. They all find nothing amiss. When I log off and
then log on again, everything appears fine, and all internet access is
restored.

Anybody any ideas at all??

IIRC, there have been some posts about unhappiness with the 3COM
routers. Perhaps the router needs to be replaced.

Hi Chris,

I am having the same problem and have posted several times with no resolve.
I have run Antivirus, AVG, CrapCleaner, Ad Aware, Spybot AND Ewido... CLEAN
system. HiJackThis logs are fine. It is like all communication in IE and
Outlook freezes. Also, when this happens, I can successfully drop to a
command box and ping yahoo.com and several other places successfully. Can
you ping as well?

This happens intermittently as well, and on only one pc on our network....

Occ I can and cannot ping, its very intermittant. I suspect that its the
router, and maybe I need to renew IP. I ma going to do and IPCONFIG release
and renew, when it happens again, to see what occurs,

Hi Chris,

For me, so far, I have removed the latest Java update (ver 5_6) and I have
had no reoccurance as of yet, but I am still monitoring it because it was so
sporadic. I have been reading about a lot of problems with the Java update.
You might want to check your version, and remove it.

Thanks.

I have had no reoccurances, as yet. Think I traced the problem, to switching
off the router, when I switch off the PC. I have left the router on all the
time, and the problem has not reoccured as yet. If it does, will try the
java issue.

Cheers

Chris

Chris, did you resolve your problem? After a month of testing, the Java
issue did not resolve mine.

The problem has now gone away, interestingly it was when I reformatted the
system, after getting a 64Bit processor and new MOBO. Must have been a config
issue, as it has not happened again. Would be grateful if anybody out there
has any ideas, wondered if it was down to the TCP/IP settings, and a winsock
issue maybe???
