Odd printing problem replicates on various printers

Anyone any ideas on this; am running XP2.?

When I try to print a flyer created in MS Publisher, or when converted
to a pdf, I find
certain sections of text (in one area of page) do not print in colour.
If I print in mono its OK.

I have a new Canon MP780, but same problem exists when colour printing
on a HP 990,
or when a supplier tries on his.

Advice valued.

... and the print preview shows fine - as well as when you print to PDF or
Microsoft Office Document Image?
