Odd networking problem

My home network has 3 machines running XP (with latest updates), and
has always worked fine. Today my laptop can no longer see the other
machines, nor can they see the laptop. Yet the laptop goes to the
Internet just fine. It essentially cannot see anything in my workgroup
(though the other machines see each other in the same workgroup).

I've done the antivirus, antispyware thing, have turned Windows
firewall off, rebooted everything, made sure file sharing is open, etc,
and am baffled. Clearly the hardware is OK since the laptop can see the
Internet just fine, and swapped an older laptop on to the same ethernet
connection as the current laptop and it works fine.

If I try to access the laptop in Windows Explorer I get this message:
"\\Laptop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find ot
if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

Does anyone have any insight?

TIA,
Jack

Are you using the a firewall?
The built in has a setting for file and printer sharing that
can cause situations like this if it's unchecked.

Maybe a dumb question, but are you sure you are connected to the same
network with your laptop? (I am guessing that you are using wireless.)
If this is the case, you would be able to access the internet, but would
not be able to view your workgroup.

When I had this problem, it turned out that I had set a domain name in
my router. Removing the domain name solved the problem. I don't know why
this would make a difference, since I am not using a domain anyway.

Is it possible that you have accidentally changed the name of the
workgroup on you laptop?
