Home Premium - install went OK.
The thumbnails that appear when you move the cursor over minimized
applications or windows now don't show the contents of the window properly,
apart (it seems!) from Windows Mail....all the others are blank with a small
square icon in the middle. Anyone noticed that?

"The wallpaper is not appearing at all on my desktop. Also the thumbnails
are
blank with nothing showing except for their filenames. This affected
images,
files, and folders. The thumbnails seemed to show the previews again after
i
cycled through the different views, but after i reopened windows explorer
the
thumbnails disappeared again. When i go to personalize to change the
wallpaper form there it show blank thumbnails in most sections. in some
sections it showed a fuzzy icon as a thumbnail. What could have happened
and
how do i fix it?"

Not seen anything as bad as that - all thumbnails seem to work except the
minimized application/window pop-ups...

Is Glass turned on?

do your windows borders look semi-transparent?

thats what glass is

I know what it /is/ - I was asking where I turn it on and off.

However - I've just rebooted after updating my wireless card driver and
funnily enough, the problem seems to have been cured....

Are you using a laptop or desktop computer with onboard graphics? It just
sounds like Aero ran out of VRAM, and if it is sharing the main memory,
there just wasn't enough left for it to use.

Oh, have you got an imaginary computer network too, like Frank's?

It's a laptop with 1GB RAM - (another 1GB is in the post....)
Toshiba Satellite L40.

I have not seen such problems!

So they allow you to install SP1 while working at BestBuy? You must have a
good manager

Well, that explains what happened. Your laptop must have onboard graphics,
that shares the main system RAM, rather than a discrete 'card' that some of
them have.

so what are you saying,
that those thumbnails of the taskbar are stored in the memory of the
display adaptor?

Yes, of course they are. Aero actually uses the VRAM in graphics cards.
Finally there is a use for all that power in graphics cards, apart from
games and 3D applications.
