ocr question

Can anyone recommend an ocr program to convert a scanned image with columns
of number to excel? I downloaded a trial copy of Iris but the results were
not good. Would I perhaps be better off going to text and then importing
into excel? Scanned image can be either pdf or tiff.
 
May be OmniPage by Nuance formerly by ScanSoft.

Some scanners already include the ability to scan to a searchable PDF which
means there is some amount of OCR being performed.

I could not find a trial version of this one. Do you know if there is a way
to test before buying?
 
I'm not aware of any Trial versions of OmniPage. However, most Canon
scanners come with an "SE" (Special Edition) version as a bundle.
