Obtaining a positive variance %

I am arriving at a variance by "=1-(A1/B1)" which gives a negative number (ie:
$9.43/$6.00=-57%). When I remove the "1-", it makes the number 157%.
How do i get this number to be just 57% (the true positive variance)?
This is probably very simple but I'm missing it.
Thanks!!
