I have a GeForce MX440 graphics card which has worked fine with XP Pro
for the last year.

I downloaded the update software from the Microsoft Update site and now
have a problem in that I lose the Taskbar and Start button.

I have restored back to a point prior to updating and it all works fine,
but has anyone else experienced the Taskbar problem with the nVidia
update.

I went to the nVidia web site and downloaded the latest software for this
card - later than the MS one - and that gave the same problem with no
task bar.

How does one restore a missing Taskbar and Start button please?

Cheers,

Ray D

This used to be a problem in 98. The fix was to boot into safe mode then
restart. I don't know if it will work in XP. Worth a try.

I have learned that starting with Win98, that I have had nothing but trouble
with MS's versions of NVIDIA Drivers. When I download them from the NVIDIA
Web Site, I have had no problems with their versions of new drivers. You
might want to try the NVIDIA Web Site for your driver updates.

MS's version of the drivers has always given me problems. Never been able
to successfully get one of theirs to install correctly and to have Windows
survive. Even "crashed" an Xp with their driver version.

I always goto the source for the drivers. Microsoft does not make the
nVidia drivers so why get a 'second rate" driver.

Just wish there was a method of turning off the drivers detection in Windows
Update!!!
