has anyone encountered problems with the latest nvidia display driver update and xp pro. is there a fix?

For what problem ? There are more things involved than the driver and the
operating system. Jym

sorry i was a little vague. it was an old windows 98 p3 860 mhz system with 128ram(i think) and a new enough nvidia geforce fx 5200 128 meg card, that i recently formatted and installed full xp pro.the system ran fine until i installed the latest nvidia driver and restarted. the system came back in 4bit color and low res. the only way to repair it was to disable the graphics card through the device manager but that means no graphics card(except the onboard one which is limited in the extreme. any help would be appreciated.

oh, and i run an identical card on my 2.4, 128 xp home system and have never expierenced problems. i think this is a xp pro specific issue

There is no difference between XP Home and Pro , except some more programs
and utilities that is built-in to Pro. Have you tried to revert to the
previous driver ? Actually the best driver is the one on your display cards
manufactures website. This has the utilities that the card was designed to
have.
Make sure to disable the onboard display card when install the new driver.

Role the driver back to the one that works and leave it at that. The latest
driver isn't always the best one.

I have a geforce 4 mx440 and have found the best driver for the combination
of card & motherboard to be 4.4.0.3, so if it works leave it be.

ive got something of the same problem... my xp pro system crashes almost constantly, but only when ive got a game on(high graphics games-warcraft 3, civ 3, and icewind dale 2). the error reports say its the nvidia device driver, but sionce its my stepfather's cpu, im a bit queasy on just removing it outright...and im not amazingly great with computers, so is there a specific driver that i should download to fix it, or is there something else i can do?

What bios date and type are you working with? Jym

I'm having basically the same problem with the 2MX400 NVidia board. This
system came with the trial version of XP home - and when I loaded XP pro - I
lost my adapter and all I have now is the onboard VGA which is lousy.
How do I disable the onboard adapter? This is an Asus A7V8x-MX mb. I
cannot find a disable function in BIOS.
If I disable the onboard adapter in my hardware settings, how do I get the
AGP adapter to work? If I didable the VGA adapter - how do I get to my
control panel without seeing what I'm doing?
I (XP)can see the adapter in hardware settings (yellow exclamation point),
but when I trouble-shoot or set up I get the dreaded error code 10, I have
the latest NVidia drivers loaded etc...
