I have a problem with my video card .. for no reason the
screen will turn white with colored lines through it and
theres no way to get it back without restarting the cpu.
when the desktop comes back on, sometimes theres a
message saying "video could not preform a redraw
function" it also says to check for and download updated
drivers for this prod.
I've reinstaled the drivers that came with the card and
also gone online and downloaded the drivers...Can someone
help me? I'm new to computing and do not know that much.
thanks Rick

Do you have Direct X 9 installed?

Did you uninstall the old drivers before installing the new ones?

When this happens, what are you doing at the time?

Does it only happen with certain programs or randomly with any
program?

Is the error repeatable at the same point where it is happening?

Has it always done it or did it start doing it after you installed a
new program or different piece of hardware?

A little more information is required.

I have a GeForce 4Ti 4200 and although I don't have the problem
described I

(a) do have DirectX 9.0b
(b) can't recall if I uninstalled the old drivers before installing the
latest Nvidia drivers (don't think so).

What are the potential problems with DX9 and/or installing new drivers,
and what are the solutions?

The point that I make is it is hard to diagnois a problem with a small
amount of information such as was given. Just saying "my computer does
this or that" with no indication of what was happening at the moment
isn't very uselful in determining what is going on.

Is a game being played when the problem happens that needs Direct X 9
and the system only has a lesser version of Direct X installed?
Perhaps a call is being made that blows up when it can't find what it
is looking for.

Are there parts and pieces of two different driver sets installed
because no time was taken to unistall the previous driver versions and
the install program, even though it indicates no need to uninstall the
previous drivers, didn't clean the old files off? Now there is a
conflict between version files

There can be ideas of why something isn't working and only one answer
for each particular problem. Helping to find that answer is made a lot
easier when more variables are know.

I guess my point in all this rambling is that to help rick with his
problem probably requires a little more information that just "my
computer does this". Perhaps he will offer some further clues.

Oh...I thought you had some specific problems in mind that I ought to
watch out for.

I agree with your point, though. AFAIK, mindreading is not common among
readers of this NG.
