I got the driver update (Feb. 18, 2003) along with Windows XP critical updates.
It added something called nView (disabled). I can find no Help file to explain
what this is or how to use it. Has anyone such information, or a place where it
can be obtained?

Yes.... nView can be kind of cool. It will allow you to do, among other
things, set special video features such as transparent drop-down menus (for
all Windows XP), special zoom capabilities, hot key set-ups for various
things.... but also you can create entirely separate Desktops (backgrounds,
etc.) that you can toggle or cycle through... each one can be used for
whatever you want... so it's a way to have for example an "email desktop",
an "office" desktop, a "media player" one, etc.

Of course, all of these bells and whistles are handled by your video card...
which, gives it more overhead to process... but I didn't notice any drops in
performance under normal usage. But if you're into heavy-duty gaming, or
run Photo Shop.. you may not find the special features to be all that worth
it. It just depends... but some of the extra features *are* darned cool.
And I am lucky enough to have a double monitor video card... so it's doubly
cool.

It's easy to enable the other features... you won't wreck anything by trying
them out. Have fun!

I suggest you explore all of the cool things at the www.nvidia.com
web-site.... lots of neat things to see, and download. Lots!

Anybody got ideas why this was in the Critical Update
section and not the Driver Updates? Also what version is
it?

Mark

Thanks, but what I was actually asking was why does the
nVidia update appear as a CRITICAL Update in Windows Update
rather than a DRIVER update, after all, it's not critical
that you have the latest driver.

Thanks for letting me know the driver version, as I have
already downloaded this from nVidia's website, and as it's
such a hefty file for my poor old dial up connection, I
wouldn't have wanted to download it twice!!!

The Windows Update nVidia notice didn't show up in Critical Updates on my
copy.... It was in the Driver Category.

It's in the driver category if you manually go to Windows Update. If you
subscribe to automatic updates, and use nVidia drivers, the automatic
update system stuffed it down the wire at you, just as if it were a
security hotfix, or other critical item.

Someone at MS must have goofed.

Thanks. I will certainly give it a test run.

It's Version 4.4.0.3 and it was in the New Drivers section, along with an
updated monitor driver. I just included it in a large overnight download.

If I go to the update site "manually" it is in the critical update section.
An MS goof !
on
my

I am using XP Home with SP1. I only ever go there manually, it was listed
in the Driver section.

Weirdness.

Beats me, just checked with the wife's XP Home and it is listed on the
Critical Updates?
