Is there a way to format a column of numbers that has been
entered as text (example: '45.00) to be recognized as
numbers so the columns can be added using the sum function.

Hi Linda,
In an empty cell enter the digit 1
Select and Copy this cells
Select all the 'problem' cells
Use Edit|PasteSpecial and check the multiply box.
Works 9 out of 10 times.

One way:

Enter the number one in a cell. Copy it. Highlight the column withe the
numbers entered as text. go to Edit\Paste Special. In the diallog box click
"multiply", then click OK. You're text should now be numbers.
