Numbering Rows

I'd like to be able to select a range of records and insert a number
sequence (1,2,3...) in a column so that the first row in the sequence is
1, the second is 2, third is 3, etc.

One way:

Enter 1 in the first cell. Choose Edit/Fill/Series... Click OK
