Upgraded my Outlook express to ofice 2003 outlook. Express would give me
"receiving message 1 of 2, 2 of 2" and so on in the status bar below while my
2003 outlook does not. Is there away configure this?

Here the problem I have with 2003 outlook:

1) Does not show or count the messages as they are received.

2) Does not give you the "No new messages" stat like express.

3) No "receive only" button, only can send/rec. I normally don't like to
have my new meesages popup untill I ask to do so if while working on an email
I want to check for new mail I dont want send I just want to receive.

Any ideas? Thanks RS

How do I receive only without sending. Thanks, RS

Mine does. Are you showing the Status Bar at all? (View> Status Bar)

Mine does, in the Status Bar.
2) Does not give you the "No new messages" stat like express.

The Unread Mail folder shows all unread messages, except those in the Junk
Mail and Deleted folders. Are you not seeing a number next to that folder
when there are unread messages in it?

Send/Receive won't send anything unless there are messages waiting in the
Outbox ready to go, which doesn't happen until you click Send on a message.
You can set your automatic send/receive interval (or delete any such
interval) at Tools> Send/Receive> Send/Receive Settings> Define Send/Receive
Groups... You can also Disable Scheduled Send/Receive from that menu. Or put
a button that will do that on your Menu Bar or one of your toolbars. To stop
a message in the Outbox from going with the next Send/Receive, open it. It
won't go until you click Send within it. You can also Work Offline if you
wish. Outlook has many choices.

Click View. Make sure "Status Bar" is checked. Click
Tools>Send/Receive>Send/Receive Settings. Check "Show Progress".
2) Does not give you the "No new messages" stat like express.

Different program, different behavior. "No new messages" is a condition you
see instantly by looking at the folder name. If it's in bold type, there
are new messages in it and the number of new messages will be displayed
after the folder name.
3) No "receive only" button, only can send/rec.

So create a receive-only Send/Receive group. Click
Tools>Send/Receive>Send/Receive Settings>Define Send/Receive Group. Create
a group containing you account(s) and uncheck "Send Mail Items" for each.
Then, when you want to receive only, click Tools>Send/Receive>yourgroup

Hi IanRoy,

Yes your right it does give you a count down, I guess it has been there but
since it pops up for just a second I have been missing it.

But the "NO New Messages" is a different story. As I understand it, read and
recieved are two different things. When short on time I don't allways open
and read my mail when it first comes in. So if at the top I have unread
messages sitting there from the same day and I check my mail I don't know if
they where already there or just came in. Obviously if I check the times and
or catch the staus bar in time I will know but it happens so fast that I am
left wondering if a new message came in or not because all I get is
"complete". Express would say "NO New Messages"

Mabye I am wrong but am I mmissing something?

Thanks, batman

Hi, batman;
Yes, read and received are different things. Wouldn't "NO New Messages" only
last until the next send/receive? Then any new ones you hadn't noticed become
old ones.
Anyway, here is a possible solution for you: Tools> Rules and Alerts... Set
up a rule to "display a specific message in the New Item Alert window." This
widow will come up whenever a new message comes in. It will stay open until
you dismiss it. So, no New Item Alert window = no new messages.
Regards,
Ian.
