Is this available/possible?
The difference between engineering and Scientific is that engineering is
always in the form of "11.11En where "n" is a multiple of 3.

Thanks,

Bill

I hate to contradict Frank, but a format such as ##0.00E+0 or ##0.0E+0.will
give engineering notation. Unfortunately the result with numbers less than
1000 is unpleasant: 56.78 E+0

Best wishes

you could also do Format>cells> on the Number tab Select Scientific and
select the decimal
places required

But that only affects decimal places and not the requirement of 10 to the
power of a number that is a multiple of 3 i.e. 10^3, 10^6, 10^9, etc.

Bernard -

This is perfect. Thanks.
And, FWIW, the display of numbers less than 1,000 is also what I was looking
for. In fact, numbers less than 1 turn out perfect with the format you
provided.

You da man!

Thanks,

Bill

I guess it would be beyond the capability of just a formatting technique to
substitute "M" for E+6, "K" for E+3, "m" for E-3 and "u" for E-6, right?

Just thought I would ask.

Stop laughing.

Bill
