ntvdm.exe problem with The Sims

Hi-
I'm trying to install The Sims on my XP.. The autoplay screen comes up and I click 'install', but the only thing that happens is a process called 'ntvdm.exe' appearing in my task manager, bringing CPU usage to 100%. I've heard it has something to do with older games, but nothing about how to fix it. Help?

Oh, and I also tried downloading TameDOS. Didn't help..
