Hello,

I tried to move our active directory to a new hardware. To do so, I
backuped the drives and the system stage, installed a new windows 2000
server with sp4 as used before, but without promoting this installation
to a dc. Then, I restored the system stage and the c: and d: drives,
with the settings to overwrite all files if asked. Now, after reboot,
during system start i get the message that ntoskrnl.exe is missing or
damaged and I'd have to install a new version of this file.

Can someone tell me what I did wrong or how it worked in your
installations? Do you have any experiences in moving an ad dc to a new
hardware? we have only a very small system, hence there shouldn't be to
many complications

Otherwise, can someone tell me how to install a new ntoskrnl to my
installation? Or any other workaround?

Thanks a lot

I would do a manual repairt, tip 2039 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at
http://www.jsiinc.com, selecting inspect startup envirenment and verify Windows
..../

I would then reapply SP4.

okay, I'll try this... Right now I'm installing a new win2000 server,
just to check if I will be able to move this empty server to another
hardware. Do you have any hint for me what is the reason that ntoskernel
is not working anymore? Should I exclude this file from being
overwritten? And if so, is it generally neccessary that I activate the
'overwrite everything' option?

One more question, if i don't bother you too much: As far as I get it,
restoring the System stage would give me both the AD and the COM+
registry. But not the programs that are registred in com+. So this ain't
enough. But would it be enough if I also restore \Program Files? Or do
also Files in \winnt have to be restored? And if so, is there a way that
ntoskrnl should be excluded?

Okay, was more than one question;-) THX in advance
