While trying to boot from my 98sc bootdisk, I got the message, "NTLR not found". I just downloaded from bootdisk.com the other day, but went ahead and downloaded anther copy of it just in case....same result. any ideas?

Verify that the floppy disc has been properly prepared.

The file that you download usually creates the floppy disc from an image, it by itself will not boot the system. Check the content of the floppy...it should look something like this (but in alphabetical order):

A:\FINDRAMD.EXE
A:\COMMAND.COM
A:\CONFIG.SYS
A:\EBD.CAB
A:\EXTRACT.EXE
A:\FDISK.EXE
A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
A:\HIMEM.SYS
A:\MOUSE.COM
A:\MOUSE.INI
A:\OAKCDROM.SYS
A:\RAMDRIVE.SYS
A:\README.TXT
A:\SETRAMD.BAT

If it's not like the above, place a blank disc in the floppy drive and run the downloaded file from Windows. It should create the bootable floppy disc.

Is there a chance that your floppy drive is not first in the bios boot
device sequence? Maybe it's not reading the floppy properly (bad cable /
drive / floppy). Sounds like you are getting an NTLDR error from the hard
drive instead of any floppy read.

Did you mean NTLDR?
And there is no W98sc; did you mean Windows 98se?

It sounds like your "98sc bootdisk" was actually a floppy which was
formatted on an NT/2K/XP system. The boot loader on those systems looks for
NTLDR which goes on to load the NT operating system. DOS-based systems
such as Win9x all start by finding MSIO.SYS and another .sys file on the
floppy. So, go to a friend's Win9x system and remake your boot disk. It
will work. --Bill
