I had a Ntldr problem. It tells me to restart every time and it didn't work.
So I made a repair install and it's sucessful. However many of my startup
files don't work, the computer slowed down and the hard drive has many
errors. What do I do to fix this problem?

Hi Questioner,
Best option for you to do Clean Install, but first Backup your Data on
removable Cd or DVD then do clean install with your Operating System?. but be
sure it is not OEM versio.
Good luck

I got it back to normal by installing all updates including sp2. However,
there is some frequent hard drive noise. There is also another strange
thing. It is svchost.exe running and spending about 44,000 Mb of memory. It is
running as a system process but it was never there before I reinstalled
windoes. Is that supposeed to happen or is that just a virus?

Thx

Hi Questioner,
Is your HDD is Old or it may be not seated in the right position or not
fitted in its base.
Run Scan disk by Right Click and select Tools Tab and select Scand Disk.
Or type in the RUN Command RUN : chkdsk.exe Press OK and start Check Disk,
and the scan disk will Repair any or Mark as Bad Sectors will find on your
HDD.
Back Up your Data and be ready if it gives way.
To understand what is svchost.exe go here

To answer the virus question:
Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

To check the hard drive's health test the hard drive with a diagnostic
utility from the mftr. Download the file and make a bootable floppy or
cd with it. Boot with the media and do a thorough test. If the drive
has physical errors, replace it.
