NTLDR is missing

By "with their software" do you mean with Western Digital's software?
If so, don't do that.

The Windows NT boot loader is sensitive to the geometry used to
construct the partition table, as users of Fedora Core Linux are
discovering the hard way (http://lwn.net/Articles/86835/).

This appears to happen even with all-NTFS setups.

Using Microsoft's own partitioning tools should avoid the problem.

Hi Xeno

Boot with your XP CD in the cd drive. Select 'To repair..' by pressing 'R'.
When in the Recovery Console type the following:

"copy X:\i386\ntldr C:\" - without the quotes. Where X is the letter of
your CD drive and C is the letter of your system drive. Take the XP CD out
of the cd drive, type Exit and then reboot into XP normally - Ctrl-Alt-Del
to reboot.

XP says " File could not be copied" (3X)
Directory shows 0 files(?) I 386
How do I contact MS for a new disk?
Maybe this is a bad one?

Hi Xeno

That's where ntldr should be on the XP CD - in the i386 folder. Have you
use the CD before?

"How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[ln];326246

The above doesn't apply to OEM CDs - you will have to contact your PC
supplier if you one of those.

Yes about 4 times on this machine trying to install.
However I tried to instal on another "old" machine and kept getting messages
so I gave up there an went back to Win98SE. Then tried using this disc
on this Brand NEW machine.
I've never gotten far enough to register with MS.
Besides, the file should stay there shouldn't it?
Or is it keyed NOT to show after the first attempt to load?
Suppose I use delpart.exe and fdisk and start over and if it still doesn't
do well
then maybe I've got a bad disc?

Hi Xeno

You said that there are zero files in the i386 folder on the XP CD. That's
where all the setup files should be.
