NTLDR is missing

i built a new computer, was ready to install windows xp professional, put the
disk in, and now it says that NTLDR is missing
 
Hi

Try this:

Boot with your XP CD in the cd drive. Select 'To repair..' by pressing 'R'.
When in the Recovery Console type the following:

"copy X:\i386\ntldr C:\" - without the quotes. Where X is the letter of
your
CD drive and C is the letter of your system drive. Take the XP CD out
of the cd drive and reboot into XP normally.

Do you have the BIOS set to boot off the CD before booting your hard drive?
You must also ensure that when you boot the CD you press a key when prompted
to do so. You only have a few seconds to press a key before the boot
sequence moves to the next device.

Did you leave a non-bootable diskette in the floppy drive?

On my HP PC that screen goes my so fast we can't even start to read it to
see what Key to press. How else is the BIOS accessed on most commercial
PCs?

i typed what you told me to put into the recovery console and then it told me
access was denied, thanks for your help so far.

Are you using FAT32 or NTFS? If the former, there may be a way round it.

Computers are only for young people with quick reactions :-)

The most common keys are 'Delete' and 'F1'.

Check your motherboard manual for the key combo to press. Once you do get in
see if there is an option for Fast Boot. Temporarily disable it and also
temporarily display any option that refers to showing the Logo on boot. This
should then let you see the POST screen and should also slow the process
down so you can see the message "press any key to boot cd...." when you have
the Windows XP CD in the drive.

## HP does not give manuals with their PCs. I used Belarc to find what MB
it has. The BIOS and MB are different and no manuals could be found at
either website. I couldn't find any information at the site regarding how
to enter the BIOS there. They're basically commercial sites looking to sell
you on their products.

Once you do get in

see my 2 yr old MB listed - P48D-LA.

With an HP try pressing F1 or F2 when the computer is starting
