My daughter's BookPC system has been compromised by some trojan or
worm that causes RPC errors with reboots. SVCHOST processes slow the
machine to a crawl. I cannot seem to get any of the virus detection
tools to find the worm--even the latest updates seem to find nothing.
So I want to do complete re-install. However, I cannot get the Windows
XP CD to boot when I set up the system to boot from CD first, even
though I can boot a Mandrake Linux CD from the same drive (I put Linux
on a different partition so as to back up data on the NTFS partition
before the re-install). The CD seems to be looking for NTLDR on the
hard drive and complain it is not there.
Suggestions on forcing the CD to boot?
