NTFS option during setup

I am doing a clean install of XP. In the initial
installation wizard, I told it I wanted to convert to
NTFS. During Setup, I am now on the screen where it asks me
to confirm that I want to convert. However, there is more
info on this screen than there was in the wizard, and now I
don't want to convert, I want to stick with FAT. (I need to
run Command to copy files from my computer to our web
server - that's DOS, right?) The problem is the setup
screen only allows me to confirm NTFS or backup to the
partition selection screen. And if I exit setup, it just
reboots and goes right back into Setup, still forcing me
into NTFS.

How can I tell it not to convert to NTFS and proceed with
setup?

The easiest way might be getting hold of a win98 boot disk, delete any
partitions, format and start over. Too many things can go wrong when you're
in the install process and hit a snag. Go to www.bootdisk.com to D/L a win98
boot disk if you do not have one.

If I followed your question correctly, the reason you
want to stay with FAT is the need to copy files from your
computer to your web server. You don't need DOS for that.
If you have been using the DOS copy command for the
purpose, there are at least two ways built into XP to
proceed - and they work just fine with NTFS. (1) Start -
Run - cmd - OK (You will have to type "cmd" in the "open"
box) will give you a command prompt session that looks
and acts like DOS, and has many (not all) of the same
commands, including COPY. When you're done with the
command prompt session, close it by typing "exit"
(without quotes) and pressing enter. (2) Use drag-and-
drop in Windows Explorer.

NTFS has a number of advantages over FAT, including
security and the ability to make better use of modern
large drives (no 2G partition limitation).
