NTFS Hard Drive files gone, yet still work?

I have a stack of 160G Maxtors 8 high, on 2 Promise TX133 cards in a
W2K server. They are used for just file share and brute force storage.
One of them seems to go up to the 120+ range and then loose the files
from ,in a specific case... from "T" on out. The drive holds from "S"
to "Z" files. This has been bugging me, and is on the second go-round
with it, I have previously formatted the drive and re-loaded from
archive the files, and it worked for a while, then "poof" they are
gone. With some time on my hands, I thought I would format it and try
it again, with this thought in mind, kicked back last evening, with
some music playing from the everpresent playlist on JRivers
MediaCenter to debate the time frame of the overhaul and if it was
worth it. Then it occurs to me that I am listening to some ZZTop,and
Zevon, and U2 and WTF? the files do not show on shares,or the server
explorer itself yet they play thru JRMC?
Capacity:152,Used:77,Free:75...the drive was near full, and still
serves up files like it is? It has been nagging me for a month, as I
listen to the same extensive playlist from "A" to "Z"

I hope this is not concidered off topic, but I question the hardware,
or is it NTFS/network shares related?

How are these drive configured (array wise)?

Just 8 drives, letters S T U V W X Y Z.

The server has been up for 62 days, it seems otherwise flawless.

Power supply? Do you know which voltage these disks draw the most amps
on and is all the power wiring first class?

It's a real long shot, but wtf.

get sequoia view

Look at the drives in a graphical interface to find the files. has to be
redundancy from either the type of array you have or maybe the brute force
software

Power Supply is and case is a Meridian CDNet100 with upgrades,
the PS is labeled 350 watts, and came stock with 8 NEC 6X CD's.
It is about 10 pounds!

Just this one drive, twice now.

I looked at sequoia view, I don't get it.
Software is just W2kServer shares. None of the other computers can see
the files. I cannot access them from the desktop or dos on the server.

I am stumped.

have you looked in Event viewer for amy red flags related to the
hardware.
