Hi,

I had problems booting from CF using ntfs.
But with FAT it is fine .

Is that normal, or are there other issues here ?

:)

Cato Svellingen,

No, that is not normal behaviour.
MAke sure you mark the NTFS partition as active.

What boot problem you are expericing?

KM

It is not normal if you used Disk Manager for placing both FAT and NTFS file systems, and FAT is working and NTFS is not.
But if you used DOS fdisk/format bootprep for FAT on target machine and Disk Manager for NTFS on development machine. Then it might
be expected to see this kind of problems.

To make valid geometry in boot sectors you must use XP on target device.
Connect CF to your target device, and only after you connected it boot to Win XP. In this way BIOS will pass valid geometry info to
protected mode windows drivers. After that Disk Manager will know how to partition and format disk with valid info both for FAT and
for NTFS. (DOS and bootprep are not required)

problem is that nothing happens when i try to boot,... BLACK SCREEN ...

I will try to partition and format CF on target using XP ........

Hi,

Can i use DISKPART instead of diskManager ?
Is that the same, as they are both from XP ??

I tried partitioning and formatting with DISKPART but still the CF does not
boot my image.

Should I try disk manager ? How do I install this ?
I dont have it in my administrative tools->computer management-> ???

I have added Disk Management components and Logical disk manager to my
image. I could boot up this image on HDD on target to set up CF.

Thanks

Cato

Hi Cato,

diskpart have superset of Disk Manager options.
So you can use it.
Don't forget to set first partition as active.
And use format after that.

Go to Control Pannel->Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management

It must be there.

I cannot find anything under
Control Pannel->Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage

Nothing ... hum ...

why is that ?

Are you using Windows XP Pro?
If you are it must be there. Try admin account.

Cato,
Make sure that the drive partition the NTDLR is on is not compressed.

Not using XP Pro.

2000 for dev. and Xpe only on target.

XPe does not have disk Manager ?

Hi Cato,

XPe have only what you include in your project.
