NO ONE can resolved this %$#$@# problem??? I've followed
just about everything that's been posted in groups re:
this problem & not one thing has helped me yet.
I had uninstalled Adobe Photoshop Elements trial & my pc
is just about useless! I've never had this before & I'm
a good trouble shooter, but this is just so %$##@ up with
no one able to come up with anything, I don't know what
I'm going to end up doing.
I'm disabled mostly homebound. The pc is my link to the
outside world & my hobbies.
What the h*ll is going on? Who's to blame for this?
Who's responsible??
I've got XP - Pro. But I don't have the original disk as
when I had my pc upgraded, I had XP Home, but the tech
put on the Pro cause he said I did purchase a version of
XP so it was ok for him to install the Pro. But I don't
have any of the files so when I tried SFD /scannow, I was
told I needed the XP Pro disk.
Can I install XP Home over the Pro?
Can you please, when you respond, also send me your
suggestions to my email. It's been too difficult trying
to get anthing done or anything looked up!
Thanx Joan

No one has answered probably because no one likes to be the bearer of bad
news. I don't like being in that position either but it sounds like you
have had more than your share of challenges in life and that you know how
to deal with the facts - good or bad - so let's give it a go, shall we?

When you uninstalled that Photoshop Elements software package it damaged
your Windows installation for some reason (why I don't know). Windows needs
to be repaired. Repair options are limited by the media that you have on
hand. Unfortunately you have WinXP Pro installed but a WinXP Home CD. The
WinXP Home CD cannot repair the WinXP Pro setup.

More bad XP Pro can be installed over Home but not the other way
around. And your license if for XP Home, not Pro. The tech really should
have given you a copy of XP Pro and a license for that version when he put
it on your computer (the licenses are not interchangeable). You need to get
a copy of XP Pro from him (and a license) - or - you need to remove
everything and set up the machine again using the XP Home CD that you have.

Possible good
You might try reinstalling the security update that addresses a
vulnerability in the ntdll.dll file. There's a chance updating this file
might be enough to fix your error problem:
