Will ntbackup.exe, the Windows backup utility found on the operating system
CD in the added value folder work on Windows XP? Are there limitations? I
seem to be able to do a backup at the current time, but am unable to get it
to run as a scheduled backup. I have followed the help file to the letter
and tried the wizard but to no avail.

Hi Tim,

Works fine for me. Are you schedulinghte backups from within the ntbackup
utility? You should be - don't set them up from task scheduler.

The major limitation you should be aware of as Home Edition user is that ASR
or Automated System Recovery does not work in your edition. ASR is used for
recoveries when the system fails to start. You should not rely on it in
catastrophic sistuations.
Otherwise, use it for regular backup and restore.

Hey "nutcase",

Yeah I'm setting up the backup jobs in the ntbackup utility. I checked the
task scheduler to be sure the job showed up there. It does but does not run
when scheduled. Other scheduled tasks run fine. I can maually run the backup
job within the ntbackup utility and it goes fine. I'm having this problem
both on my computer at home and the one at my office. I must be missing
something!

Yes thank you Eddy11. I did read that ASR does not work on XP Home, but
thanks for the reminder.

Still though I can't seem to get scheduled backups to work.

Hi Tim,

Check the properties of the task from the Task Scheduler folder and make
sure the "run as" name and password are set.

I discovered that I have to use a password to log onto Windows XP, and to
use that password when scheduling a backup in the ntbackup utility.
