When I go to the command prompt and type nslookup I get
this error message
"Sever: Unknown
Address: 204.224.123.x"

Yes it is a public IP scheme we have here in my company.
We have a 2003 DC and win XP pro desktops. I have an
issue with the DNS settings. Any ideas?

Nslookup performs a reverse lookup on the IP of the server it is using, if
it can't find a PTR for the IP you get "Server unknown" but nslookup will
still works.
Since you are using a public IP scheme, you will need your ISP to create the
PTR records for you or delegate the reverse lookup back to your DNS. If the
ISP will create the reverse lookup you will better off. then you won't have
to allow incomingt DNS connections.
