Another solution is to remove the hard drives from the computer and put them into USB hard drive enclosures. They can then be attached to your router through a network storage device.
Go to Linksys's website and search for NSLU2.
Assuming the router have LAN ports and will assign IP to each computer, you should be able to share each other. This how to may help,

I bought a new computer. I still have the old one, which has 2
perfectly good hard drives on it. I use a LinkSys router so that I can
go on line with my laptop. Is there any way I can use the router to
give me access to those hard drives?
