Today's critical update loaded flawlessly on my office's
PCs. However, both of the office's Internet Connection
Sharing computers locked up after restart and would not
even return to the Welcome Screen. I was able to return
to safe mode with networking support, but System Restore
did not correct the problem, nor did Windows Repair. I
finally had to reinstall XP Pro to get the machine to
boot up again. I have not reinstalled the patch.

I know there is a problem with ICS and the latest patch
because I replicated the problem on two different
machines. When I unplugged the ICS connection from its
network card, the machine would boot up. When I plugged
the ICS connection back in, it would hang before it got
to the Welcome Screen.

Any ideas?

This is a perfect example of why you should turn off auto
update and not install any M/S updates for two weeks
after they are released!!!!!

This is very true but not helping!

Anyway, I have exactly the same problem. And yes, I did installed the
patches. I don't know which one thou, cause I have installed
everything!

I have reinstalled my XP, and the patches again. I still have the
problem if I restart. But if I shutdown, then turn on the system back
up - no problem.

Does Microsoft release the fix for this yet?
