When trying to access an excel file on a NT46a share to Everyone, if
someone else is accessing that file, I used to get a dialog box giving
options including "notify me when current user is done". Somehow I lost
that message and now I just get a read-only version of the excel file. Does
anyuone know how I can get that functionality back? Thanks!

Hello,

Have you tried opening the file when you are very certain that no other
person is using it. If it still open as read-only, then most probably you
don't have write access to that file. Check the access list of the folders,
subfolders and the file itself.

Thanks Jon-Jon.

Yes, I am certain no other app had the file open testing. The users had read
, write , execute. But you put me on right track.
As a temp workaround, I gave them "Full" perms and the functionality
returns. Seems to reason 'Write" would be sufficient , but for now, one
less ticket until I can figure it out.

Giving them delete perms won't be fun.

Possibly, the problem lies in fact that source is Excel 97/NT4 and clients
Excel2K/Win2KPro? Not sure...will have to test.

Best,
Tom
