How do I prevent the Outlook 2003 icon from planting
itself in my already way-too-congested notification tray?

You have to do this through this using the Customize Taskbar in XP, not Outlook. Taskbar properties, Hide inactive icons, Customize, pick the Outlook icon and choose Always Hide. You should use it for awhile, however. It's very handy to be able to have it pop up with emails. You can delete, open or ignore new emails if you set it to Show new mail desktop alert. Right click on the icon to see all the settings.

Mary, thanks. I'm using Win2000, not WinXP. How would I do
it using W2K and Office 2003? Also, in Outlook 2003,
through Tools>Options>E-mail Options...>Advanced E-mail
Options... then selecting "Show an envelope icon in the
notification area option, wouldn't that display an
envelope when I receive a new email?

Thanks, Mike Avila
