XP ,how do you delete useless icons in the notification

The help and support centre will tell you all you need to know. Just type in
'notification area' into the box and a number of helpful knowledge base
articles will appear.

You should check each program to see if it has an option to not
start automatically. For any that do not have the option, and
that you don't want to start automatically, do so from the
program MSCONFIG, which you can run from the Start | Run line.
