Notification area missing

Hi,

I just installed XP, and during the past few days, I lost my notification
area. Anyone know how I can get it back?

There /may/ be a policy restriction to hide the entire notification area.
This policy can be found in the registry at these locations

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
and/or
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
Name: NoTrayItemsDisplay
Type: DWORD
Value: 1 (Hide); 0 (Unhide)
Or delete NoTrayItemsDisplay in the right-hand pane.

Thanks for the reply. I tried your advice, but had no luck. My notification
area is still missing.

What I did not tell earlier is that in my "Taskvar and Start menu
properties" window "Hide inactive icons" is grayed out.

Do you see the Time in the Notification Area?

The following registration entry will restrict (grey out) the "Hide inactive
icons"

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
and/or
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
Name: NoAutoTrayNotify
Type: DWORD
Value: 1 - Restrict "Hide inactive icons".

Delete "NoAutoTrayNotify" in the right-hand pane. Log off and log on make
the necessary changes.
