Notes Connector: Can I sync only my calendar and PAB?

Hey all,

Been playing with the Outlook 2003 / Notes Connector, and
I'm liking it. However, I would much rather (I can't
believe I'm saying this...) work within Lotus Notes for my
email, but do my calendaring and address book work via Outlook.

Is this possible? I can't seem to figure out the right mix
of settings to disable email sync but leave calendar and
*personal* (i.e. local, non-network) sync enabled.

Thanks!
Dave

Keep in mind that OL 2003's address book is NOT a PAB. OL used the Contacts
folder as the address book.

Thanks for the reply - hadn't considered that. But does
that mean my initial idea is impossible?

Thanks

No, but I would think that your contacts will have to be hosted by your
email program. If you use Notes for mail, you'll have to use the contacts
features there if you intend to address mail to those contacts.

Hey Brian,

thanks again - you seem to be answering everyone's questions!

But my main question still remains - is it possible to sync
ONLY calendar data, and NOT email data, using the connector?

Thanks
Dave

Beats me. I've never used the connector. However, I suspect that the
connector is just a MAPI interface that Outlook uses to communicate with the
Domino server, just like Outlook uses MAPI to communicate with an Exchange
server. No "syncing" happening at all. You're actually using the Lotus
Domino message store for your items, with no local copy contained within
Outlook at all. There used to be a MAPI service for Lotus cc:Mail
available, too, and it allowed Outlook to access a cc:Mail message store in
the same way.

When you said you "work within Lotus Notes for my email, but do my
calendaring and address book work via Outlook", I guess I glossed over the
next paragraph where you said you wanted to "disable email sync but leave
calendar and
personal (i.e. local, non-network) sync enabled." If you want to use
Outlook for your own personal Calendar, you can certainly do so independent
of Lotus Notes. Just add a "Personal Folders" to your Outlook and make that
Personal Folders your default delivery location. Your Calendar, Contacts,
Inbox, etc. will then no longer be shared with Notes. You should still be
able to access the Domino server, though, through the connector.

Of course, since I'm unfamiliar with the connector, I could be talking
through my hat, but if it's a MAPI interface, it should work this way.

Hey Brian,

Thanks for the help. I'm still not where I want to be just
yet, but your tips/explanation of MAPI definitely helps.

Dave
