For some reason, all of a sudden, I am having a problem
when I try to open notepad to view .txt files. Notepad
opens, but only the text box appears. The typical windows
resize, close, etc. buttons on the top of the window do
not appear. So, the only way I can close notepad is
through task manager. Anyone have any thoughts on how to
correct this? Is it possible to uninstall and reinstall
notepad? If so, how?

Thanks.

Sound like you notepad is too large for the present setup of your screen. Have
alook at the help file for maximise - it tells you to place all presnet windows
in the taskbar if you hit the first icon in the taskbar (the one just after
start). In any case that will temporarily get rid of your notepad.

If you really are in trouble, do have a look at this

What happens when you right mouse the notepad button on the taskbar and
choose maximize? Do you have the complete window displayed? If so, the
restore window is hidden up under the top. Do you have your taskbar on the
top? If so, move it to the bottom. I used to use the taskbar on top with NT
4.0 and I quit, because often some window would hang up under the taskbar.
