I tried transferring a txt file by floppy from my Win ME puter to a Win XP
puter. When i double click on the file on the floppy disk it does not open.
I can see the file on the floppy when i look thru explore. The same thing
happens with a notepad txt file from a Win 98SE puter. Both the Win ME and
Win 98 puter can open txt files made on the XP puter. I have tried going to
compatability and making XP compatible to these files but that doesnt work
either. If i put a doc file on a floppy it will open. It seems that XP
doesnt like txt files from earlier OS'es. Am i missing something here or is
this a common problem? I did notice that the file sizes on notpad exe are
different. 52K on Win ME and 64.5K on XP. Has microsoft left out this
compatibility? Thanks for any help.

There have been a number of posts concerning the inability of WinXP to read
floppy disks (not just notepad files on floppies, but any files on floppies)
that were created on Win98 systems. I suspect that your Win ME problem is the
same. After some debate, I think the best solution is described here:
