a few days ago my windows lost its association with notepad.exe, and until i
manually changed the file types association, all my txt documents had begun
to open in wordpad by default

now, my txt files are opening correctly, but i still dont seem to have
notpad on my list of available programs when opening other files (such as
html or css files for example) using the 'open with' context menu

when i browse to notepad.exe (on c drive) and select it, even then it does
not appear back in the 'open with' program list, and if i click ok, the
chosen file opens using something else, not notepad

how can i restore notepad to my 'open with' menu without having to reinstall
windows? i often need to open other file types with notepad and cannot now
find how to do this

thanks anyone who can help

(WinXP Pro service pack 1) - no i dont have a virus, recently updated NAV CE
sees to that

Hi Steph,

Just drop a shortcut to notepad.exe in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\SendTo

And you will be able to just use the send to function in the context menu
rather than barging through the "open with" function. For that, you may need
to restore this registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\OpenWithList\Notepad.exe

Start/run regedit and see if it exists.
