Notebook display problem

I don't know if this is an XP problem or an HP problem, but I'll start
here...

If I set the power options on my HP Pavilion notebook so that the monitor
shuts down after a period of inactivity, the only way I can turn it back on
is to "hibernate" the computer, then turn it back on. Touching the touch
pad, pressing keys, or moving the USB mouse have no effect on the dark
screen.

Any ideas? Should I call HP?

Are you sure you've read all the options for "waking" the monitor up
after it goes into standby? Most notebooks will wake the monitor up
if the cover is closed then opened. Also look closely at the
alternate "F" keys. (Fn keys) You should have one that shuts and
wakens the display. You may have to set that option in power settings
first.

If all else fails, contact HP. (Not an XP problem.)
