Not using all space available

I have a document which is one page, moving from one to two columns part way
down the page.

At the bottom of the first column there is enough space for several lines of
text, but it still keeps moving them across to the next column.

I have tried Widow and Orphan control, I've tried changing the margins and
the height of the footer, but I can't see any reason why that space isn't
being used.

Hi Ugnz,

Check whether the offending paragraph(s) are formatted as 'keep together'
and/or 'keep with next'. Either attribute could be contributing to this
effect.

Cheers

Damn, I thought I'd listed everything I'd already tried.

Yep, tried that one. No luck.

Next guess? :)

Hi Ugnz,

If Word is 'balancing' the columns, that suggests you've got a Section break
restoring the layout to single-column after the last paragraph in the
two-column Section. If so, inserting a column break at the end of the
two-column Section, or deleting the final Section break will stop the
balancing. If you follow the former route, you'll up with an extra page if the
right-hand column is used. If you follow the latter route, it will kill the
two-column layout and you'll need to recreate it for all of that Section,
including the final paragraph mark.

Cheers
