not so simple need imput

Sorry for this post but I have tried searching for my
problem and it just complicates things. I purchased my
computer with ME. Then I purchased an upgrad XP home. Down
hill since. I thought about partitioning my hard drive
which has 51% free space, formatt, reinstall to clean
things up. I have hooking and modifing of programs going
on now. Question:
1. should I buy an additional hard drive that's clean?
2. should I reformatt what I have and wipe it clean?
3. do I need to reinstall ME then XP?

If this is too much to absorb please feel free to direct
me a site that is helpful. So far I have searched far and
wide with no results. Thanks for any imput for any one out
there willing to help. Debbie

I don't know what you mean by "hooking and modifying of programs going
on". If you have the Windows ME disk - not a Recovery or Restore Disk -
the best thing to do would be to back up your data and do a clean
install with the XP upgrade disk. Start fresh.
