Does anyone know what causes my file explorer to lock up when looking for a
file for, say, insertion in to FrontPage?
I go to "Insert" picture from file, the file dialogue box opens up OK but
then takes ages to respond. If I lose patience and click again I get a Not
Responding message at the side of the header.
I get the hour glass whilst it fails to respond but then it does respond an
all is well but who can wait almost a minute each time you move within a
directory or open a file?
It happens in all the Office programs.

Look at the Error Reports in Event Viewer ( Application tab ) for Hang
Reports and post a copy here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
