I have two computers on my network. 1 is running windows ME, the other is
running windows XP, not SP2. I ran the Network Setup Wizard on both
computers using the XP cd. After checking the status of my network, the
computer running ME is working, but the computer running XP isn't. After
running the Networking troubleshooter, i was told to ping the computers on
the network. The XP computer can ping the ME computer, but when i try to
ping the XP computer, it doesn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled the
software for the network adapter, but it still doesn't work... How do i get
my home network to work.

Max,

Is the firewall (ICF I guess) or anther third party personal firewall, enabled
on either computer?

Exactly what error is "it doesn't work"?

Max,

You disabled ICS just now. On YankeeBoy. Yet YankeeBoy has an IP address
192.168.1.1, and shows DHCP / Autoconfiguration enabled, and the DHCP server as
192.168.1.1.

First, when you run ICS, it assigns 192.168.0.x. Second, when you shut ICS
down, it shouldn't show DHCP / Autoconfiguration enabled, unless you have a
server or NAT router out there giving out addresses.

Third, if ICS is part of the setup, why did you disable it? I can help diagnose
the problem, but I need to see the problem, without you shutting down portions
of it.

Fourth, If YankeeBoy has just 1 Ethernet adapter, how is it running ICS? ICS
shares Internet service, where is the service coming from?

i forgot to mentiont the error message i get...

"home is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network
resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.

Max,

That's a browser conflict.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/windows-9x-9598me-and-browser.html>

Possibly caused by a personal firewall problem.

Thanks Chuck, I didn't realize that my firewall hadn't asked me about joining
the network. I went into the firewall settings, and installed the network
there. Just to say again, thank you.
