You cant.

Without a domain, you need to create local user accounts on the machine with
the shares for every user you wish to grant accress to the share.

You can create a single local account and password. Grant that user
permission where needed. Share the logon info with the users of the other
pcs. They will use it to authenticate when accessing the shared pc.

Sure, a single user account can be used if you don't ned to differentiate
between users who are connecting. But the OP wanted to:

I had the same question. Does this mean than you can not creat a domain in
XP? In otherwords, to have user accounts I need to pourchase Windows 2000 or
server 2003?

I don't know what the original question was since you didn't quote it
and my newsserver doesn't have the post but - I think you are confusing
user accounts and a domain. Certainly you can create user accounts on
an XP machine. XP is a true multi-user operating system. You cannot
create a domain on XP; you need a server operating system such as
Server 2003 (and not Windows 2000 plain either) to create a domain.
Then you make user accounts on your domain and your XP Pro workstations
can join that domain.

Start a new post instead of tacking yours onto someone else's. Include
all the details of your network and what you are trying to do and what
you need help with.

Ron, Since my question was not clear, I created a new post to address the
issue seperate from jozoe's issue.

You said I can grant a user permissions where needed. With XP I only see
where you create an administrator user or a limited user. Where do you grant
permissions if you do not have user groups?

If possible, please reply to my new post so that the replies will be in one
place.
