Okay, I am having some real problems with my comuter. I cannot even log into
windows (I am am on my dad's computer right now). Here is what has happened;
I was on my computer, online to be exact. And my computer just shut
down....there was a error message, but I did not catch what is
said...something like it had to shut down...my computer shut down, when I
restarted it. It was runing very slow....I had to restart it a few times,
then I just gave up...shut it down for a bit. When I came back on hour or so
after, I started it up, got to the log in screen, clicked on my name, it
stayed on "Loading personal information..." for a while, then these error
messages pop up in this order: "Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows
is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file. During this
process memory request for some applications may be denied. For more
information see help." then a small window with a red circle with a 'X' in
the middle of the circle came up, then this message: " Value creation failed
" at line 422" when that message came up, there where also some 'beeps'.
after those messages the computer just stops. I don't know what is going
on....I was having some major problems with adware, so a few days before all
this, I downloaded a fire wall, someone from this board suggested the
firewall, so I do not think there was a virus in that download. I do not know
what to do....I have a lot of information on that computer....I am hoping I
don't have to dump everything.....what should I do?

Hi,

Boot into Safe mode, then start with the steps outlined here:

How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP [Q310560]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310560

If that doesn't isolate it, move to:

HOW TO: Perform Advanced Clean-Boot Troubleshooting in Windows XP

When was the last time you ran a full system scan with a fully updated
antivirus program?
